We Should Rendezvous
E1 Only The Beginning
Location: USS Magellan; Bridge
Timeline: MD09 1620
Once his official shift had ended, Anjad had taken himself to his quarters. He started off sitting at his desk but after 20 minutes, he decided to relax, grabbed his PADD and went and sat at the couch in front of the window. He had sat there for a few hours now. Not quite long enough to fall asleep, but long enough for him to finally feel a little relaxation.
That relaxation did not last for long as a chime sounded from the ship's internal communication system. "Bridge to Captain Terax," came the disembodied voice of Operations Chief Parker.
"Go ahead." Terax Replied.
"Sorry to disturb you, Captain, but the Gisborne has entered communications range."
"I'm on my way. Terax out." He tapped his comm badge. The walk to the turbolift, and then the ride to the bridge was short. He strolled onto the bridge.
Walking to the center of the room and taking his seat, he began to process everything that needed to happen. "Open a channel."
Stoic as always, the Vulcan executive officer remained in her seat and watched the events unfold, silently intrigued as to the status of the Gisborne and her reasons for being so deep into the expanse.
Tim tapped a sequence of buttons on his console. Opening a channel was easy, but the communications array needed to undertake a new set of adjustments to account for the warp travel and the gravimetric distortion before he could initiate the transmission. "Channel open, Captain."
The channel opened, showing "Captain Yorke. A pleasure to see you."
"And you, Captain Terax. What can I do for you today?" She replied.
"We know you have been deep within the Expanse, so we don't know how much you know. But the surrounding powers, the Tzenkethi, Breen, and Talarians have formed an alliance and ordered all Federation assets out of the Expanse."
"We are aware of this." She replied curtly. "We were on a recon mission to the edges of the Expanse. But we found something we weren't supposed to."
"What was it?" He asked, a hint of concern in his voice.
"I can't say over an open channel. But when we saw you on long-range sensors, we set a direct course. We should rendezvous in about 30 minutes. And we can discuss then."
"Very well Captain. We shall maintain position, see you soon. Magellan out." He for a fraction of a second, he lost control of his stoic facade. He looked to his XO and two-XO. "Commanders. What are your thoughts?"
"Curious," T'Prynn remarked as she turned her body to face the Captain. "The Captain is clearly concerned about her discovery. Whatever it is caused her to change course to rendezvous with the Magellan. I would recommend caution and concern our behalf," the Vulcan advised.
The Operations Chief swung his chair around so that he could face the command team on their platform without strain on his neck. "I agree, Captain. Our sensors have not revealed anything of concern, but the Gisborne was deeper in the Expanse per the flight plan filed with Starbase 514. It's possible they found something we cannot see."
"Yes," Captain Terax replied. "I agree. Maintain yellow alert, and see if we can refine our sensors anymore. I want to know if so much as a micrometeorite passes within 100,000 kilometers of the ship. Let's hope it stays clear."
