Take Your Station
E2 P1 Let's Take A Breath
Location: USS Magellan; Deck 9; Security Office
Timeline: MD00 || 1100
Lieutenant Kala put down his kit. Having spent the last hour on the security department's training holodeck, he had just finished a ten-kilometre run. He walked into the communal area, and then through to his shared office. Being a Lieutenant had its perks, which included access to one of the 6 security offices, though one was usually reserved for the security chief.
He tapped a few buttons on his holo screen, which showed his schedule for the day, and sighed. More security drills. The team had been working hard lately, and it seems that every time they had any lull in practically any assignment, security drills were added by the Captain.
He walked to the Chief's office and entered. "Uhm, Lieutenant, do you have a moment?" There was no response. "Computer, locate Lieutenant Minna Chang."
"Lieutenant Chang is not on board the Magellan."
He checked the time on the wall console. Alpha Shift he thought to himself. "Is Captain Terax on the bridge?" He asked the computer again.
"Affirmative." The computer replied.
He turned around and walked back towards the turbolift. He headed up to the bridge. The journey itself was less than fifty seconds, and he walked out onto the sparsely crewed bridge. The officer of the watch looked to him.
"How can I help you, Lieutenant?" He asked.
"I'm looking for the Captain."
"Ready Room." He replied, as he pointed to the ready room door, and continued whatever calibration he was completing.
"Thanks." He walked over to the room and pressed the chime, which followed almost immediately with the door opening, and the raised voice of the Captain.
"... didn't even run it past me? How the hell am I supposed to run my ship, with my Chief Security suddenly being whisked away!"
"Captain, it's unfortunate, but there are plenty of other officers who can take the position, even on your own ship. It's done Captain, make it work. Starfleet Command out."
Anjar stood there, not quite sure what exactly to do. "I can come back another time?" He went to turn around.
"No, it's fine, come in Lieutenant. You were my next call anyway." He sat down, took a sip of his tea and it seemed to calm him. The Captain's demeanour changed, from irritated and angry to calm and collected. "Would you care for a drink Anjar? Please, have a seat."
"No, thank you though, Sir." He replied as he sat down.
"So, you likely heard some of that, so I won't sugarcoat it, Lieutenant. For the time being, until we can have a new Chief of Security assigned, you're acting Chief. I know it's a goal of yours at some point, but I'll warn you now, it's a temporary position. It might be for a few weeks, months, or even a few days. And, granted there's not much to do while we are docked, we are due to head out tomorrow, so I need to know you can do it."
Anjar stiffened up slightly. He knew he wasn't ready just yet, that was the point of his monthly training shifts, but it was still a bit of a shock. "I understand, Captain. I appreciate the faith you have in me even to take on the position, albeit temporarily."
"If you can finish the alpha shift position on the bridge, it's only an hour, but you can go through the weeks week's duty rosters, and adjust them with you taking the Chief's schedule. Then beta shift, take the Chief's office and have the rosters back to me by 1400 hours, Lieutenant." The Captain replied.
The Captain sounded quite encouraging to Anjar, which he needed right now if he was honest with himself. "Aye, Sir. I'll get them done."
"I know you will Lieutenant. Take your station, dismissed." The Captain smiled.
